Themes & appearance

Make it yours — and change it from your phone

Palettes, code-editor fonts, and light/dark for the whole window — and you can switch it from the phone.

Termary themes the whole window, not just the terminal surface. Pick a palette, a code-editor font, and a light or dark appearance — and the app chrome, tabs, and panes all follow. The mirror on your phone follows too, and can even change the Mac's theme for you.

On the Mac

  1. Open Settings from the sidebar gear.
  2. Pick a terminal palette — Apple Default, Solarized, Dracula, and more.
  3. Choose a code-editor font and set the cursor shape (block, underline, or bar) and blink.
  4. Set appearance to follow the system, or pin light / dark independently.

Building your own? The theme editor gives you the full ANSI Normal/Bright grid, a selection well, and a palette carousel to preview as you go.

Change it from your phone

Open the theme picker in the iPhone app (next to + on the Terminals toolbar) and choose a palette — the Mac switches to it, and the live mirror reflects the new colors on the next refresh. Handy for dropping the desk into dark mode at night without getting up.

The mirror matches the Mac

  • Live colors — the phone renders each terminal in the Mac's active palette, not a generic scheme.
  • Cursor shape — block / underline / bar carries over to the mirror.
  • Fit to width — zoom the mirror to the Mac's column count for a true 1:1 view.
  • Instant flip — change the theme on either device and both catch up.

Themes are free on the Mac. Changing the Mac's theme from the phone is part of the Pro companion app.
